February 6, 2021 - Strawberries have DNA?! | DNA Model(STEM Session) Students will extract DNA from a strawberry or fruit of their choice and will build a DNA model. February 13, 2021 - Step Afrika(live stream) Step Afrika! is the world’s first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping—a polyrhythmic, percussive dance form that uses the body as an instrument. Based on Step Afrika!’s award-winning arts education programs and more than twenty-five years of performing and teaching students, the Company has created Five Days with Step Afrika! to support the current academic environment as well as the challenges of virtual learning. February 20, 2021 - Black Violin(live stream) Black Violin is led by classically trained string players Wil B. (viola) and Dev Marcus (violin). Joining them are DJ SPS and drummer Nat Stokes. The band uses their unique blend of classical and hip-hop music, often described as “classical boom,” to overcome stereotypes and encourage people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds to join together to break down cultural barriers. Black Violin released their latest studio album, Take the Stairs, on November 1, 2019. The record debuted at #1 on the Billboard Classical Chart, #1 on the Billboard Classical Crossover Chart, #7 on Billboard’s Top New Artists Chart, and #9 on the Billboard Hip Hop and R&B Chart. Their last record, Stereotypes also debuted #1 on Classical Crossover Chart and #4 on the Billboard R&B Chart. NPR praised the album and band, saying “their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation.” Some of their creative collaborations include Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan, Wyclef Jean, Lil Wayne, and Alicia Keys. February 27, 2021 - Oobleck I Lava Lamps (STEM Session) Students will make oobleck (cornstarch and water) and lava lamps! March 20, 2021 - Physics and Engineering Week (STEM Session) Students will learn about engineering and design through the Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower Challenge! Supplies for a bonus activity will be included for making a cell phone camera microscope
