The Answers You Need

FAQ's: FAQ

QUESTION: I WOULD LIKE TO BRING MY CHILDREN TO TUTORING. HOW DO I SIGN THEM UP?

You can register by clicking HERE. To speak with someone, please either contact us at saturdaytutoring@gmail.com or (216) 505-0885.

QUESTION: WHAT TIME SHOULD MY CHILD/CHILDREN ARRIVE AFTER THEY HAVE ENROLLED?

We recommend that students arrive by 9:30, but they MUST arrive by 9:45 so that we can have them paired with a tutor and working by 10.

QUESTION: WHAT SUBJECTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR TUTORING?

All basic subjects are covered: math, science, reading, English, and social studies.  For high school students, we also offer OGT, PSAT, SAT, and ACT prep.  At this time, we are unable to guarantee tutors for foreign languages.  If you are an adult, out of school but working toward your high school diploma, we offer OGT tutoring.

QUESTION: WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS BRING TO EACH SESSION?

We ask each child to come with homework, library books, notes, workbooks, or assignments from you or the teacher.  We have educational materials available to supplement what is brought.  Students who arrive with no work lose valuable tutor-student time.

QUESTION: HOW LONG DOES A TUTORING SESSION LAST?

Tutoring starts at 10:00 a.m. (although your children should arrive by 9:45 a.m.) and ends at noon.  There is a snack break at 11:00 a.m. when students and tutors are welcome to have refreshments.  Please plan for your child to stay for the entire 2 hours as coming late or leaving early is very disruptive.

QUESTION: WHAT GRADES DO YOU WORK WITH?

Students range from 1st grade to 12th grade.  We also work with adults who are out of school and are studying to pass the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT).

QUESTION: HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE ASSIGNED TO MY CHILD’S TUTOR?

Ideally there will be one student per tutor; however, there may be times when two students will be assigned.

QUESTION: WILL MY CHILD WORK WITH THE SAME TUTOR EVERY SATURDAY?

Possibly, when your child and the tutor attend the same Saturdays and arrive around the same time.  If your child is late, we may have already assigned the tutor to another student.  If the tutor is late, your student may already be assigned another tutor. Let us know in advance that we should pair your child and a certain tutor together.  With your help, we will keep your child partnered with the same tutor as often as possible.

QUESTION: HOW MANY TUTORING SESSIONS ARE THERE?

There are approximately 10 tutoring sessions per semester.  Fall semester typically begins in late September and continues until Thanksgiving.  Tutoring resumes at the end of January and continues until Good Friday/Easter.  There is no tutoring offered during the summer.

QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS OF THE TUTORS?

Although some of our tutors are/were teachers, most are local college students or members of the community who simply want to make a difference.  All tutors receive training before they are assigned to a student.

QUESTION:  WHERE ARE THE TUTORING SESSIONS HELD?

The sessions are held at the Church of the Covenant (11205 Euclid Avenue) across from University Hospitals.  Enter the parking lot from Euclid Avenue.  From the parking lot, enter the east side of the building by going down the patio stairs, across from brightly-colored signs. Those stairs are directly opposite the driveway entrance.
